caching temporary youtube files (16 characters long) which are not usable ...

by marlowbg on 27 Dec 2010

Hello over there,
I am using Videocache since 1 week, I noticed in my /videocache/youtube dir that I have lots of files from this type: "a55dc40f06ac6ee0" which are Youtube temporary files. You can recognize them because their name is 16 characters long.

for information youtube permanent ID's are only 11 characters long like: A4vtmP_snV8

My questions: Is this happening with other videocache users also?

What to do about this problem, because downloading this files takes bandwidth and I do not benefit from them.

Hi!

The video files with 16 character long name are just a hard link to the video file with 11 character name. We never download the videos with 16 character video id. They are created as a result of the metadata information fetched from Youtube. Also, these don't take double space on your hard drive as they are only hard links. Let me know if you have any other queries.

Thank You!
